Our main goal and purpose is to create a cheerful, harmonious gathering, characterized by enthusiasm and love for the diversity and beauty of poetry and prose in the German language.

The duration is about 2 hours with a joyful coffee social afterward. Everyone interested is warmly welcome.

West Coast Barn Dances are a group of young musicians deeply rooted in Canada’s fiddle music tradition. These monthly dances, similar to contradances, are in the tradition of old-time barn dances. With live fiddle music and tasty homemade snacks they aim to celebrate and share the joy of fiddle music, dancing, and community. 

All ages welcome, no experience necessary, all steps will be taught, tasty homemade snacks, lots of fun, doors at 6:00pm, dancing starts at 6:30pm, suggested donation of $10 pp (VEC members) and $12 pp (non-members), parking available.

Entertainment: Edelweiss dancers and Rika Ruebsaat, singer.

Rika Ruebsaat is a singer, historian and author who was born in Germany and grew up in British Columbia. She has spent most of her singing life performing Canadian and BC songs and connecting them to the lives and history of Canadians. She and her husband, Jon Bartlett, have produced several CDs of Canadian songs. They have also written books about BC history and Rika has written a book about people’s summer camp experiences.

Rika grew up in a German-speaking singing family and thus has a rich repertoire of songs in German, which she will perform with sing-alongs from the audience. 

Rika is writing a book about the experiences of German immigrants to Canada. In order to do so she would like to interview German immigrants or the children and grandchildren. "I believe the experience of German immigrants is unique and I think that many people would be interested in reading about it." If any of our Members  would like to share the story of their journey this is your opportunity to connect with Rika

Helen Davies Band

The five-piece HELEN DAVIES BAND plays soul and blues hits by artists such as Etta James, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker … and even the great Elvis Presley! Also featured are newer songs in the same vein from Tedeschi Trucks, the Black Pumas and Chris Stapleton, along with some amazing, hit-worthy original music. HDB’s music is up-tempo and danceable, making them one of the most in-demand dance bands in Victoria!

Bijoux du Bayou

For almost 22 years Bijoux du Bayou has been spreading the rich traditional styles of Zydeco, Cajun, and New Orleans music and keeping those ‘good times’ sensibilities up front. Bijoux music includes Tex-Mex, Swing, Latin, and Country tunes to take you on a musical ride you’ll not soon forget. With accordion and fiddle sailing around guitars and bass, there’s plenty of wind in the musical sails to deliver you to a fun but enlightened destination.  If B.C. had a bayou, Bijoux would be in the middle putting out the joyous sounds they’re known for. Don’t miss them!
